Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson

Hunting Lila

Jeez, okay, umm...what can I say? Hunting Lila didn't really catch my attention. I saw the cover, checked out the summary and left it alone. But then my friend read it and she apparently liked it. Being the person that I am, I partially ignore her, and continued on with my life of books.

Then came May 23, 2013. I was soo bored. I had no idea what to read because I'd already read so much. Then my eyes drifted over to Hunting Lila which was hidden in my library.
I had no choice but to give it a try. Mostly because when I read the summary again, I read how she loves her brothers best friend and I'm a sucker for those type of stories.
Any who, I started it and I was honestly intrigued at first. Especially with the secrets. I don't know why, but when the main character keeps secrets, I love it. Heck, I love it when they spill their secrets too! But Lila was different. Lila would pretty much be your typical girl with no friends. Except she's not normal and she knows it.

The very first chapter pretty much gets to the point. She's mugged, does something drastic with her non-normal-ness, and flees to her brother without telling anyone. Then begins the part where I despise Lila. I hated how weak she appeared to me, and how girly and lovesick she was. There was one thing I love though: she kept running away. I mean, she never got far, but she ran. And things like that also spike my interest.

So, let me introduce you to THE GUY. Our hottie, and her brothers best friend, is named Alex. He is pure, butt-kicking sexiness. I liked Alex. A lot. But did it ever get to the point where I totally love him? No. I admired his protectiveness and possessiveness but no. Just no.
And instead of falling for Alex, I fell for Lila's brother!! Jack is Lila's brother and I fell in love with him. He was smart, sexy, and a fighter. He was also protective. Gosh, he was amazing.
So, I don't know if it's just me, but I can't say much for this book.
The ending was pathetically dramatic. And I don't believe I'll be moving on to the next book. If by some miracle, I do read the next book, it'll just be for Jack. ;)

I gave this book 3 stars! Check out my review on Goodreads if you please: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/622924493

Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma!

Other than the fact that the cover of Imaginary Girls is totally picturesque, the written story was just so mesmerizing my eerie.

It's books like these that make me come alive and think about the worlds wonders and all these creepy type of things.

Imaginary Girls is so eerily beautiful, it's crazy. I loved every second of it and it still somewhat remains a mystery to me.
I can't even begin to sum up a summary for you about this book.
It's indescribable. In a good way, of course.
So, really, all I can give you here is my honest opinion that it will change your thoughts on everything, and that you should read it.
Seriously, read it. If you don't like it at first, keep reading. It gets real good.

Now, if my description does not depict the book enough for you, check it out on Goodreads through this link:

You can also read other people's reviews on it and, even mine through this link:

You should seriously consider this book! I don't understand how someone can not like it, but Nova Ren Suma's style of writing is interestingly peculiar and beautiful.

Cornerstone series by Misty Provencher

Cornerstone!!!
Ah, there's soo much I have to say about Cornerstone. Let's start with the fact that it is probably my favorite book right now. It was beyond imagination and I liked that it brought something new to the world of paranormal. The whole storyline was incredible and Misty Provencher was so creative with it, I fell in love. The characters were amazing and I'd be lying if I said I hate any of them. Heck, I'd be lying if I said I hated anything from Cornerstone!
BEHOLD: the awesome cover of Cornerstone. You've probably seen prettier covers in your life, but this cover is pretty decent and it really went well with the story.

  Official summary:

Nalena Maxwell has been branded ‘The Waste’ at her new school, due to her mom's obsessive paper hoarding. Nalena desperately wants something to change in her life, but when she receives a sign (and it's the wrong dang one) inviting her into a mysterious, ancient community, too much changes. What she knew of her family, what she thought of her life and what she believed about her future, is no longer applicable. Seventeen years worth of family skeletons come crashing into Nalena's life and it is the boy...the one that smiles at her like he wants to hear everything she'll ever say...that already knows her powerful secrets. But it is only Nalena that can choose between protecting the life that is already crumbling beneath her feet and the one that might sacrifice everything she could ever have.

Cornerstone was just so great, I'm having trouble not spoiling for you. Okay, let's start with Nalena. She's our main character. She doesn't have the greatest life. Her dad left her, her mom is an obsessive writer who never finishes her stories and hasn't published anything, and her life at school is basically crap.
You see, Nalena is called "The Waste" at her school because someone saw her house that was stacked to the ceiling in paper from her mother's obsessive writing. You can't even walk through the house without bumping into a stack of paper. Any who, so she's the loner girl with absolutely NO friends. *sigh* I honestly love the books that have characters like this because then they meet that sexy guy and they get their justice and happiness in life. But that doesn't happen in Cornerstone. Or maybe it does? Point is, I'm not telling.
But the guys name is Garrett and he's super hot. Nalena obviously thinks he's hot. Hell, she couldn't tear her eyes off him. Then there's the whole cool paranormal thing that makes them different. But it's a cool, intriguing type of different. BTW, no worries, it is not one of those cliché stories.  And there's some hot romance going on, as well.

Keystone (Cornerstone #2)

Offical summary:

There’s a man-made storm coming, like a rip in the world, and it’s called the Cusp.

Struggling to fit into the destiny she’s accepted, Nalena Maxwell has been left with one objective: she must find her murdered grandfather’s Memory. Stolen and hidden away by her own father over seventeen years ago, the Memory could be the key to ending the Cusp and destroying the Ianua’s rival community, The Fury.

Driven by each individual’s selfish desires, The Fury has always lacked the loyalty and organization it needs to be an actual force of power.

Until now.

Someone masterminded the Fury’s massive attack on the Ianua, slaughtering twelve of their thirteen community leaders, the Addos. Now there are rumors that the 13th Cura, to which Nali belongs, has gone to the Fury, manipulating the last Addo in order to control the other 12 Curas.
As the Cusp brings the Fury and their own communities against them, Nalena’s Cura must preserve the Ianua, but finding the key to the Cusp isn’t as simple as it seems.

Keystone was even better than Cornerstone and there's definitely a load of characters you'll enjoy in this one.

Jamb (Cornerstone #3)

A note, from Nalena:

The world has gone insane and our only option is go deeper into The Fury.
Facing the enemy doesn't scare me.
Unless he is my enemy now.

Ohmigosh, Jamb had my heart pounding so hard!! Personally, Jamb was my favourite book in the Cornerstone series and I thought it was the best. The action, romance, and in-depth story line was exciting and more perilous. It was written excellently, too.

WHEREABOUTS OF THE FOURTH BOOK:

Now, if you check out Misty Porvencher's blog : http://mistypro.blogspot.com/

You'll see that the fourth and final book in the Cornerstone series is titled Capstone. Unfortunately, the cover and summary have not been released yet and the book will be published in spring/summer of 2014.
The wait will be long and dreadful, but with another good book in my hands, I'm sure I'll survive. ;)

The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine

Rachel Caine is the author of authors. Like, for real. Her books are just so good! And what I really like is that she doesn't take that long to write the next book. I mean, sure, it takes time to write it; don't all good books?
The point is, Rachel Caine's books have filled my mind. They're honestly all I ever think about and I have every calendar in my house and on electronics marked for the next book to be published by Rachel Caine.
The first book in the Morganville Vampires is Glass Houses. I thought the cover was absolutely beauteous (the rest of her book covers are too) and the whole story line was even better!

Our main character is Claire, and she is pure genius. Seriously. I hate those weak female characters that always need saving. Claire, she's smart. Super smart. But being super smart leads to being beaten up.
Claire's just moved to Morganville, Texas to go to college and things aren't looking too good. The queen of the school, or queen bitch, Monica Morrell, hates Claire with a passion. She just doesn't like her. And it doesn't help that Claire has to be a smart alec whenever Monica confronts her.
After a really bad encounter with Monica and her friends, Claire decides it's time to leave the dorms in her college and find somewhere else to stay.
What she finds is the Glass House.
I refuse to give anything away from there on out, so yeah. But Claire starts to notice how odd everything is in Morganville. Like, what's with the people with the bracelets that say they have protection? Why are the streets completely empty at night?
Those questions also spiked my curiosity even though the cover gave it away. Morganville Vampires.
Any who, now that we have that figured out, we got a whole lot of action, adventure, and romance throughout the whole series.
(In this picture, the official book covers are the top row, and the bottom row shows the same edition of the book but with a different cover. Both rows are still the official book, no matter the cover.)

Now, if you don't like it at first, do not give up on it. I repeat, do not give up on it!! I mean I was hooked from the very first chapter, but I don't know if it'll be the same for others.
And when I see those reviews of people who hate the books, I'm honestly left speechless. I mean, I thought Morganville Vampires was pure genius! Maybe even a work of art!
But I don't understand how someone could not like it.
So, feel free to read this awesome book! I assure you that you will not regret it.
Fear not ,though, if you are one of those vampire hating people. There are tons of great non-vampire books out there and rest assure that I will most definitely write something about it.
Please check out my other book reviews though, but I'll be writing so many more and books won't be the only thing I blog about !! ;)

The Killing Kind, Bryan Smith!

I don't know about anyone else, but I am a horror fanatic! Classic horror or gruesome horror; I'll watch it.

I'm so used to watching scary movies that I never really thought about scary books.
Now, I'm not talking your creepy R.L. Stine type of books that give you goosebumps (see what I did there?), I'm talking bone chilling, nightmare worthy, pure horror.

So when I saw The Late Night Horror Show movie, I thought it was totally epic. Not once did it occur to me that an author had written it and it was a book.
So imagine my surprise when I saw it on Goodreads by Bryan Smith.
I obviously added it to my to-reads and checked out his other books.
I was looking through his books when I saw one that just compelled me:
The Killing Kind.

So what do I do? I go out and get it.
Once it's in my hands, I read it. Not all of it, though. Just three chapters. And those three chapters were enough to freak me out. Later on, I finished the whole book and was not disappointed!
The Killing Kind is told by three different point of views that tie together extraordinarily in the end.
I've never read anything like The Killing Kind and Bryan Smith was just so freaking creative with it.
This is the type of horror I love.
And now that I know horror comes in book form, I'm officially hooked.
You might think The Killing Kind is sick and twisted when or if you read it, but that's horror, people.
You ask for horror and Bryan Smith will hand it to you on a shining gold platter.

I also heard his Queen of the Dead book is really good, too, and I plan on reading it. When I do, I'll give my review to you readers.
Till then, please do feel free to comment and tell me your thoughts or if you're looking for a good book recommendation.

And try giving The Killing Kind or other Bryan Smith books a go.
You might just never put his books down.
